Finnish welterweight Jani Ridasmaa (4-2) fought today at the International MMA Tournament event in Tyumen, Russia. The Finn battled Russian striker Aleksei Kuntshenko in the main event of the show.
Ridasmaa’s coach Jukka Paananen reported the Finn lost in the second round due to Ridasmaa’s corner throwing in the towel. Kuntshenko took Ridasmaa down right from the bell and punished the Finn with Ground and Pound. In the second round Ridasmaa was able to use his striking skills on the feet but the Russian gave plenty back. Ridasmaa suffered a cut near his eye that got worse as the second round progressed and eventually led to Paananen throwing in the towel.
According to Paananen the fight was awarded the Fight of the Night honors and Ridasmaa “fought like a warrior” which pleased the crowd.
