Cage Warriors Fighting Championship announced that Swede Diego “The Silencer” Gonzalez will make his return to the cage.
Press Release
DIEGO GONZALEZ will make a return to Cage Warriors action this month when he takes on Ivica Truscek in a lightweight bout at CWFC 46 in Kiev, Ukraine on February 23.
Gonzalez (14-6-0-1nc), who suffered a decision loss to Andre Winner at BAMMA 8 last October, hasn’t fought on a Cage Warriors card since his win against Arni Isaksson in 2006.
That victory followed two memorable clashes with Dan Hardy and marked the beginning of an eight-fight win streak, which included notable triumphs over the likes of Matt Thorpe and Steve Berger.
24-year-old Truscek (17-9-0), like Gonzalez, is a former welterweight. The Croat has won six of his last seven fights, the most recent of which saw him crowned World Free Fight Challenge welterweight champion courtesy of a win over Lubomir Guedjev in Slovenia.
“This should be a fantastic striker versus grappler bout,” said Cage Warriors matchmaker Ian Dean. “I’ve followed Ivica Truscek for a very long time and he’s an exciting and explosive fighter. I think he could make a huge impact now that he’s dropped down to lightweight.
“I’ve also been a big fan of Diego Gonzalez ever since he fought on Cage Warriors events back in the day. I’m looking forward to seeing how he’ll perform as he’ll want to re-establish himself in what’s a stacked European lightweight division.”
