Mads Burnell (13-3 MMA) has signed a contract with Bellator MMA. The terms of the contract have not yet been made public.
The 26 year old Copenhagener made his pro MMA debut in September of 2013. After several fights over Scandinavia and the UK, the UFC signed him to the promotion with a record of 8 wins and 1 defeat. Out of those 8 wins, 5 came via submission in the very first round. Burnell made his debut in the UFC in 2017 at UFC Fight Night: Volkov vs Struve. The bout took place in the lightweight division against a UFC Veteran Michel Prazeres (26-3) who has beaten the likes of Gilbert Burns, Mairbek Taisumov, Zak Cummings and Desmond Green. Unfortunately, the bout did not go his way and Prazeres won via submission in the 3rd round. Roughly 5 months later he beat Mike Santiago (21-12) via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night: Stephens vs Choi. In the next fight, Burnell lost to Arnold Allen (16-1) via submission in the 3rd round at UFC Liverpool. On September 7, 2018, Burnell was released from UFC.

Following his run in the UFC, he was signed to Cage Warriors. The Dane had a sold run to the title with two 1st round submissions. In June 2019, he won the CWFC Featherweight Championship against Dean Trueman (10-6) where he managed to secure another submission in the 2nd round. His last fight took place Steve Aimable (14-7) at Cage Warriors 111 where his opponent missed weight, making it a non-title bout. This, however, has not stopped Burnell from winning via unanimous decision. No fight announcements have yet been made.
