Khamzat Chimaev (6-0) will face John Phillips (22-9) on July 15 at UFC Fight Island. The Swedish based fighter will take a short-notice fight on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. MMAJunkie was the first media to report the matchup.
Chimaev will replace the original opponent Dusko Todorovic in this middleweight bout, although he has found a home at welterweight. “Borz” is a frequent training partner of Alexander Gustafsson, so is accustomed to training with bigger fighters at Allstars Training Cener.
Chimaev KO’d Ikram Aliskerov (8-1) with a brutal right hand at Brave FC 23. It was the first loss for Aliskerov, following other impressive stoppages from “Borz” over Sidney Wheeler and Marko Kisic.
Phillips is out of SBG in Ireland and earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus after a 14 second KO over Alen Amedovski in September. He lost his first three UFC fights prior to the big win.
