Undefeated Norwegian Kenneth Bergh (6-0) is trying to replace the recently injured Ilir Latifi (14-5) that has withdrawn from his co-main event against Glover Teixeira (27-6) at UFC Fight Night 134 on July 22. “Since Ilir is Swedish, should they put me in they hopefully might be able to garner more interest from the Scandinavian crowd.” says Bergh to MMA Viking about trying to get signed to the UFC for the late notice fight.
Bergh has been training alongside Frontline Academy teammate Emil Weber Meek (9-2), who is also getting ready for his bout on the UFC card in Hamburg, Germany.
“Believe me, I’ve hassled both my manager and the UFC matchmaker, I want that fight more than anything!”
“I’m ready to fight anyone let’s go” posts Teixeira on social media as he remains hopeful of still getting a fight.
The light heavyweight Norwegian was set to face Modestas Bakauskas (5-2) from Lithuania in April at Cage Warriors 93 in Gothenburg, but had concussion during training that prevented him from competing.
“I know it’s a high profile fight, but at the same time, it’s three weeks notice and I think it might be difficult for them to find a replacement relevant for the European crowd.”
Bergh was selected for The Ultimate Fighter Season 23 in 2016, where he lost an exhibition bout to Eric Spicely (who went on to go into the UFC) to get into the house. He has since won three fights, bringing his official record to 6 wins and 0 losses.
