If you have ever talked to Håkon Foss (7-3), you would never leave the conversation thinking that “Death” was be a fitting nickname. And now that as the welterweight prepares to step back into the cage this Saturday at Cage Warriors 80, the old nickname is dead. “It never fit me” says the Swedish raised fighter that represents Oslo’s Frontline Academy.
After finding a connection to Håkon Galen (or Håkon the Crazy in English), the royal Norwegian known for his ferociousness in battle in the 12th century, Foss found his inspiration. Hence the new “Ferocious” nickname that the aggressive fighter will use as starts his new Cage Warriors contract and fights again for the first time in 6 months. If you need any proof that this is a more fitting nickname, watch this wild IRFA 9 fight versus Zebaztian Kadestam, which was the 2015 Nordic Fight of the Year.
The Norwegian-blooded fighter that grew up in Sweden wrestling, will take on a the UK’s Martyn Harris (4-2) at the Indigo at the O2, in South East London. “He’s a tough guy, but as a fighter he is one dimensional. Same thing in every fight.” comments Foss to MMAViking.com about his opposition.
Foss has won his last 5 out of 6 fights, only losing to Karl Amoussou in a short notice bout, who is headling the card. Håkon is coming off a win at Imperium FC 5 on August 28th where he put away German Jonny Kruschinske. The Frontline Academy fighter is ready to climb toward the CW welterweight belt with this CW debut victory.
Foss will be seeking his fourth straight win the cage and rides the Frontline wave that has been building contenders and propelling fighters into the UFC. “We have worked really hard over a long period of time” continues Foss. “We now have really good coaches, more structure, and guys in every weight class. We are all motivated.”
