UFC Tonight made the announcement that UFC on Fox 5 will be held at the Key Arena in Seattle. Of much interest to the Nordic fans is a title-contender bout between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Alexander Gustafsson. The event takes place on December 8, and will also feature a lightweight title fight between Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz.
The lightweight showdown between the Swede and the Brazilian will go down in neutral territory, as the UFC heads back to the Pacific Northwest. The last time the UFC appeared in Seattle was UFC Fight Night 24 in 2011.
Gustafsson is coming off of his biggest win of his career at the UFC in Sweden in April, as he dominated Thiago Silva resulting in a decision victory.
The Mauler was impressive in this performance, knocking down the Brazilian early in the first, then using his effective footwork and hands to outstrike Silva. Rua is coming off a victory over Alex’s frequent training partner Brandon Vera, in a slug-fest. Shogun showed that he wasn’t just a striker as he looked to take the fight to the ground.
B.J. Penn and Rory MacDonald are also on the star-studded card.
