Details keep moving forward with the Jon Jones versus Alexander Gustafsson matchup planned for this fall. At the open workouts today for UFC 161, Dana White confirmed that the bout would headline UFC 165 in Toronto.
UFC 165 is slated for Septemper 21 at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and will be headlined by the Swede versus the champion Jon Jones.
Gustafsson will be looking for his 7th straight win in the Octagon, while Jones will be seeking his 10th straight. The champion’s only loss came against Matt Hamill due to a disqualification.
The Mauler has been on the sidelines since his December bout over former UFC title holder Mauricio Rua, while Jon Jones last won in easy fashion over Chael Sonnen in April.
The Swede is the first Nordic fighter to fight for a UFC title. The Allstars Training Center fighter has an overall record of 15 wins and 1 loss. The 26 year old will be facing a younger opponent in the American that is 25 years old. Jones holds an overall record of 18 wins and 1 loss, and fights out of Jackson’s MMA.
