Swede Alexander Gustafsson will be on the upcoming UFC in Sweden card. Sverige’s Television (SVT) first reported the news, and MMA Viking has since confirmed the plan. The Mauler’s opponent has not been identified, but just like the UFC’s debut in Sweden, the Swede will be carrying the heavy weight of a headliner as he approaches a title fight shot.
With an unconfirmed date of April in Sweden, the fight would align with the TUF 17 finale, Jon Jones will seek his fifth title defense against Chael Sonnen, which is confirmed for April 27. The next light heavyweight title shot will be much clearer after these two bouts are done.
Gustafsson made a huge leap to contender status at the UFC on Fox bout in December, out-striking former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua en route to a unanimous decision.
Stay tuned for official announcements about the UFC’s return for Sweden and Gustafsson’s participation.
