MMA Viking has talked to the Nelson camp, and the Icelandic star will have to wait a while before he returns. “Yes unfortunately this is true.” says Nelson’s manager and father Haraldur “Halli” Nelson today about confirming the announced injury today.
“Gunnar hurt he knee last week and an imaging yesterday showed that he has to have surgery.” says Nelson of his son’s condition. They hype has steadily grown since Nelson has run up his undefeated record, including his most recent two victories in the UFC. His next step was to be against Mike Pyle in Las Vegas on his first numbered event, showing another opportunity to climb the UFC ladder to the top.
“He is of course gutted but these thing happens.” continues Nelson. Time will tell how much time will take for a full recovery, but plans for a bout would likely be towards the end of the year if not early 2014.
