Denmark’s pride and one of the best welterweights in the world Martin “Hitman” Kampmann made a marvelous comeback last night in his fight against Brazilian Thiago “Pitbull” Alves. The bout between the two top ranked welterweights was the main event of the UFC on FX 2 show that was held at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.
Kampmann had success early in the fight when he landed a stiff front kick to Alves’ face and dazzled the Brazilian. Alves however came back to the fight by taking down Kampmann and progressing to mount position that the Dane was unable to escape. The second round and first part of the third round were spent on the feet where Alves was finding more success with his crisp boxing and heavy leg kicks. One of the striking combinations wobbled Kampmann near the end of the fight. When Alves jump in for the kill the gutsy Dane locked in a air tight guillotine that forced Alves to tap out with just 48 seconds left of the fight.
A win over top contender Alves raises Martin Kampmann’s stock a lot and a title fight shouldn’t be too far ahead.
