Norway’s Celine Haga (9-13) made quick work of Catherine Costigan (5-2) in Ireland last night. The fighter representing New Mexico’s JacksonWink MMA finished the BAMMA 22 bout by a verbal tapout due to an armbar in the first round.
Haga was on a wild ride. After returning from Norway to the USA, she was called back to fight on short notice as replacement after an injury to original matchup with Simona Soukupova. Haga recently got back on the winning track at BAMMA USA’s Badbeat 16. The atomweight submitted Alyssa Garcia (1-3) in the first round by arm-triangle choke, ending the bout at 4:49.
Her win tonight was an upset of a local. While both fighters tied up to grapple, it was Haga with the judo throw that put the Irish fighter on her back. Working both to get a triangle, then an armbar, eventually it was a modified armbar for the finish.
