Finnish lightweight standout Anton Kuivanen (17-6) will return to action at Cage 22 on 11th of May where the Finn will lock horns with Jason Pierce (10-1) of USA. This will be Kuivanen’s first fight since he was released from his UFC contract following the loss at UFC 157 in February. The Finn is currently training at the American Top Team in Florida. He will return to Finland next week and finish his training camp at the GB Gym in Helsinki.
Flawless MMA’s Jason Pierce is best known for his appearance on the Ultimate Fighter season 9. Pierce didn’t look too impressive on the show starting from passing out at the introduction and then showing lack of motivation throughout the show before getting kicked off the show for staph infection. Since the reality show Pierce has fought with a slow pace fighting four times in four years. During this time he has gone 3-1 with the latest one being a decision win over Andre Kase at Extreme Challenge 199 in November of 2011.
With this fight announcement Cage 22 card is quickly becoming one of the strongest cards in the recent years in Finland. The show will be headlined by featherweight champ Tom “Stoneface” Niinimäki who will defend his belt against former WEC champion Chase Beebe. Bellator veteran Marcus Vänttinen is on the card too as well as welterweight talents Kai Puolakka and Juho Valamaa, who are both on a roll right now.
