Swede Alexander Gustafsson has just one target for his next bout, and it’s against the light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The Mauler took to Twitter today to say “Its on @JonnyBones cant wait to get in that cage with YOU!!!”
To take another step forward, Gustafsson states that he is going to Russia, where the champ is currently on tour. Again the Allstars Training Center fighter revealed his plan via social media taking a picture on Instagram saying saying “Next stop Moscow!!!”
When asked by his manager Manos Terzitane if he was on a “mission”, Gustafsson responded “damn right iam ;)” Jones is also in Moscow, so Gustafsson is doing what he can to get to his target and get this fight to happen. Jones has already met and posed for a picture with Fedor Emelianenko during his stay, and perhaps a fight announcement could be in the near future.
The Twitter battle between the two lanky light heavyweights has continued throughout the day, with another tweet to Jones :
@jonnybones if you think of what is good for your image, maybe you should continue to fight this 185ers??

The champ responded, “Fighting me is not good for your image @AlexTheMauler”. Time will tell if Jon Jones’ injured toe will allow for a time-slot that would work for Gustafsson schedule.
Both fighters do not have fights announced, and rumors of both Daniel Cormier and Lyoto Machida being in the mix have been talked about as potential opponents for the champ.
Gustafsson has been on the sidelines since his victory over Mauricio Rua back in December. The 26-year-old was held out of his headliner in Sweden after he was cut in sparring before April’s UFC in Stockholm. The Mauler is on an impressive 6 fight winning streak.
On the other hand, Jon Jones defended his title this past April against Chael Sonnen to cap off a season of coaching The Ultimate Fighter. Jones has defended his title a total of five times, since capturing it over Rua in 2011.
Stay tuned for the latest developments.
