UFC president Dana White likes the idea of Alexander Gustafsson (16-2) facing another top light heavyweight in Anthony Johnson (18-4) to keep busy, and AJ likes the idea… however he sees another opponent first.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to fight in late October or something like that if there are any fights open,” Johnson said to UFC.com. “I was hoping I could fight Ryan Bader in late October and fight Gus on the Jon Jones card. That’s my idea.”

“It will be a good fight. Gus is taller than me, but I think we have the same amount of length of reach. So it’ll be interesting,” said the former welterweight. “Gus likes to move a lot and I like to stalk people and see what they have to offer. It will be a hell of fight. I definitely want to give the fans what they want to see.”

“Hopefully we can make the Jones-Cormier fight, one of those fights where that whole card is like a preview of what the light heavyweights have to offer.” says the Blackzilians and Jaco Hybrid Training Center standout about targeting the January card.

“I’ll hate it, but all right, I guess I’m going to Sweden to whip some ass,” Johnson jokingly said previously about a matchup with Gustafsson possibly taking place in Gustafsson’s backyard.  However, Gustafsson and his management team don’t want to step back into the cage unless it is for the belt.

Johnson is off to a nice streak of eight consecutive wins (two in the UFC) while Gustafsson has won seven of his last eight, the only loss was by way of a controversial unanimous decision to champ Jon Jones at UFC 165.
