Our content partner FightSport.fi reported the results from the Draka 11 event where Finns Niko Puhakka and Toni Valtonen took on local talents tonight in Khabarovsk, Russia. The rules used in Draka shows are quite different from Unified MMA rules: 3 x 3 min rounds with 1 min rest, ground fighting is limited to 30 seconds at a time, no elbows. Fighters also get points for throws: the bigger the throw, more points you get.
Lightweight powerhouse Niko Puhakka jumped back to winning ways by outgrappling his opponent Maxim Shtepenko for three rounds. Puhakka threw Shtepenko few times in each round and controlled the striking on the feet with his jab. The win pushed Puhakka’s pro record to 27-12.
Light heavyweight Toni Valtonen was not so lucky in his fight that also went to decision. Alexander Illiasov stalled the action by hanging on the ring ropes and avoided contact with the Finn in the second and third rounds but Valtonen still manage to take him down in every. However the judges made a bizarre call and the hometown fighter Illiasov was announced as the winner by decision.
In the main event Australian K-1 vet Peter Graham knocked out Latvian Konstantin Gluhov with a stiff right hand at 1.30 of the first round.
