There are few fighters in the Nordics that have had more ‘almost signed by the UFC’ rumors than Sweden’s Sirwan Kakai (11-2). But that hasn’t deterred ‘Zohan’ from taking the necessary steps to achieve his dream as he has moved to train at American Top Team and has now signed with the prominent SuckerPunch Entertainment. “I have everything to reach my full potential now. ATT put a lot of time in me now and I feel big difference. I am so confident, I really believe I am one of the best fighters in the world.” says Kakai to MMAViking.com as he awaits news on his next bout.
The fighter was just a takedown or a missed punch away of getting household attention as he lost a close decision in his TUF 18 fight to get into the house in 2013 versus Chris Beal, who is currently signed and fighting in the UFC. The 25 year however has won his last 11 of 12 fights, only losing another close decision in Japan to Taichi Nakajimi in September of 2013.
“I signed with Titan because I thought they will keep me active” says the fighter that started with GBG MMA. The bantamweight beat the formerly undefeated Joseph Brajas in his Titan debut last October, and now awaits Titan’s next move as they haven’t made any moves since March. “I am ready to go, I am still waiting for a fight!” says the anxious fighter that wants to move forward in his career with SuckerPunch Entertainment directing his career.
“I have signed with a new management, I see a bright future, and I improving in a very fast pace, I will put a big statement in my next fight.”
“I have one of the best boxing coaches Chuck Isen on my side, we work everyday, I never had a striking coach before. And I do a lot of privates for wrestling and grappling with the coaches, and I got a great mental coach, and strength and conditioning, I have all pieces to be the best.” says Kakai that hopes to unleash his new skills soon.
Training partner won’t be a problem for Kakai, that his consistently sparing and working out with some of the best featherweights and bantamweights in the world, with main training partner and roommate Mirsad Bectik, who is coming off of another spectacular Octagon win. Robert Whiteford, Brad Pickett, Nik Lentz, Adi Alic, and Marcus Brimage are others that keep the Gothenburg trained fighter ready for the big leagues.
